Why did Rublon MFA for OWA stop prompting for MFA after I installed an Exchange Cumulative Update (CU)?

Modified on Wed, 07 Feb 2024 at 11:07 AM

The Rublon MFA for Outlook Web App (OWA) installer modifies some of Exchange’s XML application configuration files.

An Exchange Cumulative Update (CU) overrides all customizations made to the XML files. As a result, after performing an Exchange CU, users are no longer required to perform MFA when accessing Outlook Web App.

How to perform an Exchange Cumulative Update (CU) with Rublon MFA for OWA?

If you wish to perform a Cumulative Update (CU) but you use Rublon MFA for Outlook Web App (OWA), follow these steps:

1. Uninstall MFA for Outlook Web App (OWA).

2. Install the Exchange Cumulative Update (CU).

3. Install MFA for Outlook Web App (OWA) again.

Always remove Rublon MFA for OWA prior to any CU installation and reinstall Rublon MFA for OWA after the CU installation is complete.

What if I already installed an Exchange Cumulative Update (CU)?

If you have already installed the CU without uninstalling Rublon first, you will need to uninstall Rublon MFA for OWA and then reinstall it.
