How does the Fail Mode in Rublon connectors work?

Modified on Tue, 6 Feb at 12:16 PM

Fail Mode is a term used to describe a Rublon connector’s behavior after it fails to perform Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for technical reasons.

Why does a Rublon connector fail to perform MFA?

The most common reasons why a Rublon connector fails to perform Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) are:

  1. When the connector cannot connect to the Rublon API (e.g., no internet connection, firewall blocks connection).

  2. When the connector’s configuration is incorrect (e.g., incorrect System Token / Secret Key values)

How does Fail Mode work?

The two possible values of Fail Mode are:

  • bypass, which skips MFA and allows the user to log in

  • deny, which blocks the user, turning down their login request

An administrator who has access to the machine where the Rublon connector is installed can change the value of the Fail Mode option to either bypass or deny.

How to set Fail Mode in Rublon connectors?

Depending on the Rublon connector, the instructions on how to change the Fail Mode option are slightly different. Refer to How to set Fail Mode in Rublon connectors? to learn how to set Fail Mode for each connector.
